SEATTLE -- Some young adults are getting lost in the recession's battered job market.
In Washington state the unemployment rate for the age group 18 -to-24 sits right around 22 percent. More than 120,000 young adults are not working but want to, according to a recent report by the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board.
One of the many battling it out in this tough job market is 19-year-old Asher Jacobson. Jacobson is out of a job, but still working on his education and taking classes at a community college.
"Right now I am just doing a couple nights a week, but that's partly because I've been keeping the majority of my schedule open to find work in the middle of the day. It is kind of like a never ending battle," said Jacobson.
His searching may pay off soon. Jacobson has a strong job lead right now.
In Washington state, about 75,000 young adults are out of school and out of work. The majority of those young adults graduated high school.
Eleni Papadakis with the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board has done the research and looks for ways to reconnect young people to the job market. She said getting that first job experience is so valuable.
"Pay would be great, but if it is not available don't sit back and say I am going to wait until the job comes. Put yourself out there. Talk to employers, talk to non-profit organizations," said Papadakis.
