FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. -- A newborn orca calf was seen Wednesday swimming among the whales which annually return to the San Juans this time of year.

Experts say this is one of the latest times the whales have returned, as they usually come back to these waters in June, according to Kitsap Sun.

Of the usual whale pods that return to inland waters, all of the orca whales from last year have been spotted. This means that they all survived the cold winter, and in fact were able to add a little addition to their pod.
