A spokesperson for Walmart says the giant retailer is not planning to open a store in Seattle's Central District.
Protesters passed out fliers in the neighborhood Wednesday urging residents to reject a Walmart store at the Promenade Shopping Center at Jackson and 23rd.
Retail union and neighborhood activists say they believe Walmart is eying the corner as it's first entry into the Seattle city limits.
Walmart recently opened three new urban stores, two in Bellevue and one in Lynnwood.
Some Central District residents said they welcome new shopping opportunities in the neighborhood.
"Until Walmart changes it's labor practices, they are not welcome in the community," said union organizer Elena Parez
