Fatal attack at Everett apartment complex
EVERETT, Wash. -- Everett police are investigating an attack at an apartment building that has left one man dead and another injured.
Everett police say the two men were attacked in an apartment at the The Bluff's apartment complex at 2 West Camino Road just around 3 a.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the men had been either shot or stabbed. One of the injured men had apparently jumped from a second-story balcony.
"It is not necessarily clear at this time how he sustained those injuries but he was significantly injured, " said Lieutenant Ted Olafson of the Everett Police.
Both men were taken to Providence Everett Medical Center's Colby Campus. That's where the man who jumped from the balcony died.
The surviving victim, a 20-year-old man, was released from the hospital Friday. Police say the deceased victim was possibly 26 or 27 years old.
Police do not believe this is a random attack. They believe the men were targeted.
The stretch of Casino Road is well known to police, but in the past couple of years, church and volunteer groups have tried to clean up the neighborhood and change the image of Casino Road.
A church group says this latest crime will not stop them from helping out residents at the apartment complex. They're carrying on with homework help with the kids Friday afternoon and other community outreach efforts.
Officers say a language barrier is slowing the investigation. They are waiting for a search warrant to get into the apartment unit and investigate what happened and possibly retrieve any weapons that may have been used.
