EVERETT, Wash. -- Everett police are investigating an attack at an apartment building that has left one man dead and another injured.

Everett police say the two men were attacked in an apartment at the The Bluff's apartment complex at 2 West Camino Road just around 3 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the men had been either shot or stabbed. One of the injured men had apparently jumped from a second-story balcony.

"It is not necessarily clear at this time how he sustained those injuries but he was significantly injured, " said Lieutenant Ted Olafson of the Everett Police.

Both men were taken to Providence Everett Medical Center's Colby Campus. That's where the man who jumped from the balcony died.

The surviving victim, a 20-year-old man, was released from the hospital Friday. Police say the deceased victim was possibly 26 or 27 years old.

Police do not believe this is a random attack. They believe the men were targeted.

The stretch of Casino Road is well known to police, but in the past couple of years, church and volunteer groups have tried to clean up the neighborhood and change the image of Casino Road.

A church group says this latest crime will not stop them from helping out residents at the apartment complex. They're carrying on with homework help with the kids Friday afternoon and other community outreach efforts.

Officers say a language barrier is slowing the investigation. They are waiting for a search warrant to get into the apartment unit and investigate what happened and possibly retrieve any weapons that may have been used.

I happen to be a friend of the 27 yr old that was murdered, and NO he was not an illegal immigrant nor a violent person. He always had a smile on his face and did not believe in carrying a gun despite how he lived his life. This man was so generous and harmless. He did not deserve to be murdered and the person who committed this act will go to prison, and I'm praying for that day to come now.

I am very repulsed by the comments I have read about this tragedy I for one can say all the ignorant and racist uneducated remarks that have been written about this are just sick! the young man that was shot, then beat and stabbed then thrown off the the 2 story balcony well any one that had any brains would call it a murder and for any one it may CONCERN, I want to just let it be known that my friend that has been token away for ever was on of them type of very warm hearted, thoughtful, and he will bend over backwards for a person not to mention he would take the shirt off his back for a stranger!! I have seen him be so naive and gullible at times and that is not his fault but many, many times I have seen him get token advantage of!!!! and no it was not drug related nor was he illegal he was a citizen of U.S.A!!! SO BEFORE YOU GET ANY MORE UGLY WITH THE WORDS AND MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT A INDECENT THAT NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT ONLY THE PEOPLE THAT WERE THERE!!! So how about letting him rest

Man, my last comment is full of typos. Here's a correction: I've never been to Everett. As a result of all the violent crimes which have been happening in Everett for the last decade, it seems that the city is much more dangerous place to live than Tacoma!

Although I've lived in Seattle all my life, but I've never been to Everett. But, according to all the violent crimes happening in Everett for the last decade, it seems that the city is much more dangerous place to live than Tacoma!

Glad most of the illegal Mexicans have moved North to the Everett area. But lets not close our borders or support the AZ law because we really need these illegals here to keep our cops and hospitals busy, NOT

Can we say drug deal gone bad? One dude got whacked and the other did some balcony diving to get away. Are these illegal immigrants? If they are I suppose I should reach out and try to comfort them.
