LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A 20-year-old Lakewood man was killed when his car left the road and slammed into a tree early Friday morning.

Lakewood police say the car was heading eastbound on Custer Road West just west of Bridgeport Way when the accident occurred at about 1:45 a.m.

Lieutenant Dave Guttu says the car left the road and flew about 160 feet before hitting a tree. The driver died at the scene.

Guttu says it appears that speed was the major factor in the fatal accident. He says there are no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Maybe he was a homosexual, could that be part of the cause too?

Well, if they didn't say speed was a factor, people would be complaining that they didn't report the cause. Or, people would be guessing at the cause. Being a 20 year old male was part of the cause too.

cyrixlord, speed is a factor to consider. Too fast to make a corner, too fast to stop soon enough, too fast to think ahead of the car. I can hit a tree all day long at 5 mph and not feel a thing. Try that at 50 mph. Different story.

Why do they always say 'speed was a factor'? They might just has well say 'leaving the road' was a factor as well.
