SEATTLE - Ashley Wagner used to stare out at the Olympic Mountains and dream of competing in a competition which shares their name.
On Sunday, she returned to Western Washington for the first time since earning an Olympic medal.
"It's been an experience I can't quite put into words," said the 23-year-old, who won bronze in the figure skating team event during the 2014 Games in Sochi.
She performed in the "Stars on Ice" event at Key Arena, in front of nearly a dozen family members from all over Western Washington.
"Did I cry? Yes," said Melissa Wagner, Ashley's mom, who remembers the days when Ashley ran around Scenic Beach State Park near the family home in Seabeck. "The ups, the downs, the bad, the good, this is the best of the best."
Sonja James-Nelson, one of Ashley's aunts says her neice's success has been good for the family. The event on Sunday served as a bit of a family reunion and Ashley plans on relaxing on the Hood Canal after a grueling first part of the year.
"We're looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments. It's been a long road, with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears," said Sonja.
