OLYMPIA, Wash. - Olympia City Councilman Joe Hyer has pleaded not guilty to drug charges, and his lawyer says in a court filing that Hyer was entrapped.
Hyer entered not guilty pleas Tuesday in Thurston County Superior Court to charges of possession and delivery of a controlled substance.
He was arrested last month by the Thurston County Narcotics Task Force and accused of selling marijuana two times at his home to a person who turned out to be an informant.
The Olympian reports the defense lawyer, Ken Valz, says that person was a "trusted political mentor" and the only person to obtain marijuana from Hyer. The lawyer says the person that Hyer thought was a friend induced him to commit a crime he would not otherwise commit.
