OLYMPIA, Wash. - Olympia police have begun giving residents of homeless camps along popular hiking trails in the city notices to vacate.
The Olympian reports that the move comes after the city fielded a number of complaints from neighbors about zoning, sanitation and drug-abuse issues along the Woodland Trail.
Olympia Police Lt. Bill Wilson says the police department has given camp residents about 30 days' notice.
The camps have become larger and more visible along hike-bike trails, as more people moved into the city's woods.
Some of the camps are on private property.
