SEATTLE -- A Seattle woman is awarded a nearly $2 million settlement after she was seriously hurt while riding a King County bus for people with special needs.
Passenger "Irene" was injured in two separate incidents while riding Metro access buses. Both of her legs were broken after her lawyers say the bus driver failed to strap the 60-year-old to her wheelchair. Her legs were crushed when she was thrown from her chair.
Her lawyers tell KING 5 both of the subcontracted drivers remain on the job.
“Whether more training is in order, whether more careful hiring practices, I don't know, but these kinds of things shouldn't happen,” said Corrie Yackulic, victim’s attorney.
King County uses subcontractors to drive the special need buses. Those out-sourced companies are paying the multi-million dollar settlement.
