SEATTLE - A five car accident blocked most of northbound I-5 traffic just south of downtown Seattle this afternoon, backing up traffic for five miles.

The accident happened at about 12:30 p.m. near the Spokane Street exit. At one point, the three right lanes were blocked by the accident and about a dozen emergency vehicles.

Shortly before 2 p.m., traffic was backed up five miles to the Boeing Access Road at the south end of Boeing Field.

Despite the number of vehicles involved, only one person complained of a minor neck injury, according to the Washington State Patrol.

To seenit thank you for your compassion. I happen to be the first car that was struck in this accident. As I was cresting over the hill near Spokane st exit, traffic was at a dead stop. I stopped behind the car in front of me however, the Semi truck driver who came over the hill behind me was on his cell phone and not paying attention and struck me at 65mph! He pushed me out of the way and barreled through 4 other cars! To all of you who dont think about the people involved it goes to show that you think you are invincible out on the roads. You are not. Im grateful that I and everyone else involved in the crash are alive and able to go home to their families. I was in Harborview laying on a backboard with a neckbrace for 6hrs waiting for Xray and Catscan results to come in. This was a scary thing and I would not wish it upon anyone. So if you can chuckle at all to this or any other crash you read about. That does not say much about you.

I was a mere 3 seconds behind this accident and was grateful to not be a part of it. It is easy to be flippant I suppose when one doesn't witness accidents like this. I am happy that no one was hurt but was saddened to witness it. To the above commentators, instead of the high and mighty attitude, try to have some compassion. Think of those involved as you would your spouse, parent, child or friend. As for flippant - I've got an angle... get your supersized selves out of the car and ride a bike instead.

Let me talk on my cell phone. I don't need to watch what I'm doing! I want to go faster and get there 5 minutes before you do. We have a lot of very dumb, dumb, drivers. Most of these inconsiderate people could care less.
