A hiking incident near Granite Falls has claimed the life of a Lynnwood teen. A helicopter crew spotted 15-year old Cedric Cunanan and recovered his body earlier today at Mount Pilchuck.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said the teen had fallen approximately 30 feet from a rock face down to a snowfield.
Family and friends of Cunanan gathered at his home Sunday and mourned behind closed doors. Still in shock, those who knew the 15-year old had trouble finding the words.
Cunanan had been hiking with his brother and friends Saturday above the Lake 22 trail when they reported he fell so far down they could no longer see him. Due to a lack of cell service on the trail, authorities said friends had to hike out to get help. Lauren Raimon has been hiking the trail for years and knows it can be dangerous.
"If you attempted to go over this lake to Heather Lake, it’s pretty steep and there’s some ledges and there’s probably fair amount of snow on the backside," said Raimon.
As word of what happened began to spread, friends turned to social media and writing on the teen’s wall.
Sushank Adhikari writes, "R.I.P Cedric Cunanan. Found out you passed away last night. It was really hard to take. I'm still in shock."
Lusiah Dozine Alo writes, "Rest in Love. Fly high wit' the angels Mann!"
Investigators haven’t released details surrounding the fall. Cunanan’s body has been turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office.
