NEAR SHELTON, Wash.— Mother Nature decided to get in the Christmas spirit delivering several inches of snow in Thurston, Mason and Grays Harbor counties Christmas morning.
“It’s the best Christmas present we could have gotten,” said Sharon Schirman, who grew up in Shelton.
When asked if she could remember another white Christmas, Schirman said, “In 35 years, I don’t remember [one].”
Schirman was grateful she had the day off work and did not have to drive in the snow.
Pastor Ron Sandrick, from Elma, rolled his van down a hill on the side of Highway 101 near Shelton Tuesday morning.
“Little too much slipperiness and not enough room,” said Sandrick, who had planned spending his Christmas at church and counseling inmates at the Pierce County Jail.
Sandrick was not injured in the wreck but was disappointed the weather-related incident changed his holiday plans.
“I’m just sad I cannot see the men in prison I wanted to see and that’s not going to happen,” said Sandrick.
A number of drivers lost control on Highway 101 between Olympia and Shelton Tuesday morning.
By the afternoon warmer temperatures melted the snow off the highway.
