PUYALLUP -- Overnight flurries left behind a layer of snow and ice on parts of Pierce County. Puyallup's South Hill received about an inch, covering roads and neighborhoods.

"The snow started coming down about 10:00 pm, then it would stop for a while, then pick back up," said Staci Howell, who was working the night shift at a local donut shop.

Snow plows and de-icer trucks started clearing the main arterial Meridian Drive soon after the first flakes started falling. By the time the morning commute began, that main road was easily drivable.

However, side streets were a different story. Arterial streets off Meridian still had a thick layer of snow on them until later in the morning. Around 7:00 a.m. snow plows were able to move on to the lesser-used streets.

"I have to get from Puyallup to Bonney Lake," said Jennica Fine, who was on the road before dawn. "I know it's snowed in different spots, so it should be interesting."

No accidents in the area were reported and the morning commute continued as normal.
