Forty percent of Seattle residents plan to travel over the holidays, according to a TripAdvisor travel survey.

Many will fly to their destination -- 62 percent -- according to TripAdvisor. Another one third of travelers will drive to their destination.

More than half of local survey respondents said this is the most stressful time of the year to travel. The main reasons it's so stressful: bad weather, overcrowded airports, and delays and cancellations.

Forty-five percent of Americans plan to travel for the holidays, according to TripAdvisor. More than half will drive to their destination and 42 percent will fly.

Many respondents named ticket prices as the reason they were driving instead of flying. Compared to a year ago, plane fares have increased 9 percent while gas has fallen 4 percent.

More than 14,000 U.S. travelers took TripAdvisor's survey.
