IDAHO COUNTY – Officials in northern Idaho have resumed the search for a hiker missing since last month after hunters found the man's dog.

Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings says Todd Hofflander's black Labrador retriever named Ruby was found Friday night on the eastern slopes of the Seven Devils mountain range.

Giddings told the Lewiston Tribune that Hofflander was last seen on the western side, and the dog turning up on the eastern side was unexpected.

The 39-year-old and his dog disappeared while hiking with a friend in the Windy Saddle area on September 27. He split from his hiking partner and when he did not meet at the appointed location, his friend went looking for him before contacting authorities.

Searchers had hoped that if anyone found the dog, it would help lead them to Hofflander.

I sure hope there are a lot/ hundreds of people out looking for this guy. Every good hiker knows that you should go down hill and/or follow a stream when they are lost. The east side should be checked just as thoroughly as they did on the west side. Besides trails, check any valley and/or stream that is coming out of those mountains. Keep looking before the snow flies... don't give up on this guy!!!

Every good hiker knows that if you get lost to go downhill and or follow a stream. I sure hope there are a lot of people looking for him... There should be hundreds of people out right now, before the snow hits. if his dog came out on the west side, he is probably on the west side. So look where streams/valleys come out of the mountains near where the dog was found. Don't give up again... keep looking!!!
