OLALLA, Wash. -- A woman in Kitsap County is making a difference helping moms choose how they want their baby to enter the world.
Mifawnwe Carlson, or Mif, is a midwife, and only one of a few in Kitsap County.
"The point is to empower them to have their babies the way they want to," said Mif, who has helped deliver, or "catch" about one thousand little newborns since 1977.
To the women she's helped, she's one in a million.
"I do end up caring a lot for each one of those women and their families," said Mif. "They are [my kids too]. I love to watch them grow!"
Mif has accepted trades instead of money for her services, including goats, dogs, and poles for her tee-pee.
