MERCER ISLAND, Wash. -- The Mercer Island City Council formally affirmed its opposition to the prospect of I-90 tolling on Monday.

The Council voted 6-1 to approve a resolution expressing its concerns over the idea.  The WSDOT recently held a series of scoping meetings, and is considering asking the legislature for tolling approval as early as next year.  Tolling would not begin for at least three years.

Several people who live on Mercer Island crammed into the Council chambers and also argue that tolling would limit sales on Island, and detract teachers from coming to work in the school district.
