A public memorial service for fallen Trooper Sean M. O’Connell will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Comcast Arena in Everett, the Washington State Patrol announced Monday.
The service will be open to the public.
Prior to the service there will be a procession of family, law enforcement and other emergency responders. The procession will begin at the southbound Smokey Point Rest Area on I-5 at Milepost 207.
The departure time and exact route for the procession are still being determined, but motorists should be aware of possible traffic delays anytime after mid-morning on Thursday.
WSP says in the meantime, if you would like to honor Trooper O’Connell you can bring flowers or mementos to the WSP District Headquarters at 2700 116th Ave NE, in Marysville.
The Washington State Department of Transportation will close the Smokey Point Rest Area on southbound Interstate 5 from noon Wednesday, June 5 until 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6.
During the closure, the Washington State Patrol will use the rest area to gather vehicles for a motorcade to honor fallen Trooper Sean M. O’Connell. Drivers should expect delays on southbound I-5 during Thursday’s procession leading to the 1 p.m. public memorial service at the Comcast Arena in Everett.
The memorial service will be carried live on NWCN and streamed on KING5.com and NWCN.com
