SKOKOMISH -- Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Skokomish Police are investigating a fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy Tuesday night on the Skokomish reservation.

The Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that a 13-year-old boy and the 14-year-old victim had been playing together all day when they decided to play with firearms found inside a residence in the 100 block of N. Twana Court.

After the shooting, the 13-year-old ran to the neighbor’s house and asked that 911 be called.

The Sheriff’s Office said the victim was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

Law enforcement provided few details of the incident Tuesday night, but friends and family were seen outside the house in distress.  They declined to speak.

The victim's best friend, 10-year-old Alex Brady, said the boy accidentally shot himself.

"He was my best friend," Brady said tearfully with his mother by his side. "I wish I'd gotten to share the last few moments with him."
