MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- For nine years, their Siberian husky named Takoda has been the Smith's beloved family pet.

"My husband got her for me for a Christmas present, and I miss her a lot," says Colleen Smith of Marysville.

Surveillance footage shows a woman pulling Takoda out of their yard last Saturday, and then pushing her into a mini-van. The car then speeds off.

It all played out in the Smith's driveway, but the two suspects didn't realize the neighbors have security cameras all over their property.

The video haunts the Smiths, and now they've turned it over to the police.

When the Smiths came home Saturday evening, the electric fence that kept Takoda from digging her way out was still working. But the top of their fence was broken.

"I think someone came to the fence right there, pulled on the fence to look [over it] and busted off the top of my fence," says Ron Smith.

The worst part of the video, is to hear Takoda howl when she's forced to cross the electric fenceline. The collar continues to shock her as the thieves drive away.

"It devastates me to think what happened to her and what trauma she may be going through right now," says Colleen Smith. "She doesn't know what's happening."

Takoda was not spayed. The Smiths aren't sure if someone wants to use her for breeding, to sell her, or if a theft is related to a call they got from a dog rescue group 9 months ago. The Smiths say someone was concerned that Takoda was locked in her kennel in the back yard for too long.

"She was closed in here one time when I had my surgery," says Ron Smith. "I had spinal surgery on my neck, and I was in a collar and I couldn't move or do anything."

KING 5 News spoke with a member of the dog rescue group who contacted the Smiths in January. She insisted they were not involved with the theft but said they are fully cooperating with police.

The media did cover the return. Should be coming on soon. The Everett Herald covered it and has picture in their web page story.

Smith Family, I hope that you get your beloved pet back soon. I'm sure she is missing you as much as you all miss her. As far as the people involved in dognapping her. You are dispicable people. I hope that the woman seen in the video and also the driver of the car are prosecuted. They had no cause to go into your backyard and steal you pet. Let's hope that these people are made an example of. Please know that we are all keeping you in our thoughts during this trying time. Sherri

I am the owner of the Siberian Husky. The suspect was going to surrender to the Marysville Police Monday morning, that did not happen, nor did we get our dog back. We might get our dog back tomorrow, and she may turn herself in. I'm not to sure if it will happen. The media waited for her today and I think they will be there waiting again Tuesday morning. I want to Thank the Media and that includes TV, Radio, Newspaper's and the Internet and the telephone. We can't let up on this story. I'm hearing from all over the world on this story; Canada, Brazil, UK. France, Germany, Poland, Kasikstan and Australia. Ron Smith

That group is out of their mind. They come in to your yard, steal your dog and make your family go through hell for the last week then they have the rocks to ask you not to press charges and give your dog to someone else? Plain outright arrogant of them. Fry 'em! I'd get a lawyer and press both civil and criminal charges against them. Roll the media in and get their name up in lights. They outgrew their britches and it's time for a spanking.

I am the owner of the Siberian Husky. This is what I know. The suspect has contacted a lawyer to help her surrender on Monday morning. This group still wants us to let someone they have in mind adopt our dog. This goup wants us not to press charges. This group says the dog is safe. Can you guess what my wife and I are thinking. It's all still hear say or as they say on TV alleged. News has to confirm before reporting. Ron Smith

ketil1 The woman had contacted the police about surrendering. She knows she can be booked into jail for the weekend untils she sees a judge. She could also bail out until court. Initial charges of Burglary (breaking the gate to get into the secure area) Theft (taking the dog), and Animal Cruelty (the dog was screaming from the electric zaps of the collar). A nine year old dog could suffer heart damage from the constant zapping. In most cases a plea deal is arrainged for a guilty plea to save the courts time. Most likely resulting in charges of Criminal Tresspass and Animal Cruelty which are not felonies. So she could end up with a fine, a few days in the jail and probation. I think the family should file for civil damages to cover; fence repair, a thorough medical exam for the dog and punitive damages for what the ordeal has done to the family and children.

next Issue, it is obvious to me as I am sure it is obvious to other law enforcement agents, that this was not a random crime, they rarely are. This woman knew there was a dog behind there, and the organization of this event looked pretty well played out. I was guess that the family has had contact with this individual in some way with in the last two months. A good starting point would be friends, associates, co workers, vet, and then any organizations they and their dog would have associated with in the last two months. Chances are this woman lives very locally would say with in a half mile radius. Some people are claiming this woman is turning herself in, do not count your eggs before they hatch, rarely do people turn themselves in, even if they say they will, and the unfortunate reality is that often the victim of the crime ( the dog here) is harmed in a way to cause death to hide the crime out of fear. I truly hope this is not the case.

First off the Second car would not be suspect, just because the car is of similar shape and color does not automatically make it a suspect vehicle, secondly it is obvious the second car is not even paying attention it is merely passing by at about 35 miles and hour. As to the crime at hand, there are several people claiming she will not get any serious penalty for this, we that depends on what she is charged with, as standard practice an officer or DA will try to get as many charges brought against an individual in hopes that one or two will stick. As far as i see see has committed Breaking and Entering, unlawful entrance, property theft, animal cruelty, home invasion, trespassing, unlawful ownership of stolen property and a few other petty crimes as well. So considering the coverage this story is getting she is looking at the possibility of around five to ten years if the DA wants to press it.

In defense of the homeowners, if that dog was mistreated, beaten, or abused in anyway as the group claimed in the past that dog would have ripped that woman to shreds. I hope this all worksout and this lady gets the Michael Vick treatment!

A renegade musher needing a quick dog for sledding? Most likely they plan to sell it to a sledding team owner with forged papers to prove it's obviouisly pure blood heritage. Stealing pets is cold hearted. The dog is a family member that has been abducted by losers.

What some people are not seeing is that the passing "identical" vehicle was NOT the only one. Watching the entire video you will see a THIRD identical vehicle passing by. This is more than a coincidence with three identical vehicles. It would indicate that an organization was involved and not just an individual act. Now the question is which organization uses these Chrysler vehicles? That should be nailed down in less than an hour by the police...

Look, YOU f#t a-- b----h - how can YOU live with yourself??? How do YOU sleep at night??? What the hell is wrong with YOU??? How do YOU justify in your twisted little head ripping apart this family, breaking the hearts of the people that have loved and cared for this dog its entire life AND HURTING THE DOG in the process?!?!? The rest of us animal lovers in Seattle are out looking for YOU, your f#t a--, and your white Chrysler and WE WILL FIND YOU. That's a promise. And if for some warped and distorted reason YOU believe YOU were somehow doing this dog a favor - YOU weren't. Who the hell are YOU to make such an assumption? I'd hate to see what karma has in store for YOU since the pain you're inflicting with this awful crime will certainly come back to YOU at least threefold. What YOU have done here is beyond sickening and shameful... I can't even believe I'm writing in response to a news story, but YOU have evoked such an ire within me I just couldn't contain it. Yuck.

Yep, it sure does "gladimoved" . Some other rescue groups have gotten way out of hand lately. It seems there have been a lot of "rough" rescue groups being uncovered. I support animal welfare and help in anyway I can, but sometimes people just overstep their boundaries in the name of what they think is right. Looking at the tape "rescue" fits better than' "ripped off to be bred". That would be to much of a gamble without knowing the dog. You can't tell if a female has been fix by just looking at her. You wouldn't know if the dog was too old to breed ...this one is @ 9 years old. They will get her back and I hope people who took her are punished to the full extent. Lessons need to be learned by people who judge and power trip like this.

This is the whole reason why I am too scared to let my dog be out in the backyard. I won't even put in a dog door because of it. I have to be home in order for her to be outside. I have another friend who built this big huge kennel thing with security system for outdoors! It's kind of funny, but REALLY sad that it has to be done! I can't imagine losing my dog like that, it is just so horrible. I hope they get her back soon!

Definitely an SUV and not a minivan. What kind of a horrible person would rip a beloved family member away from the comfort and safety of their home? Cruel, heartless thief. I hope they catch her soon and the dog goes home safe and sound. It sure doesn't seem like an opportunistic theft. They probably scoped out the area before or at least knew about the dog prior to showing up. Kudos to the neighbor for having cameras set up. Hopefully someone recognizes that woman's fat behind and turns her in. Looks like she could use a prison diet. I think she needs to see how it feels to have an electric shock collar stinging your neck for awhile too.
