SEATTLE – Mary K. Letourneau, the former Seattle-area teacher who made worldwide headlines for her affair with an underage student whom she later married, is now a grandmother.

NBC News tells KING 5 the child was fathered by her son Steve, from her first marriage.

Letourneau pleaded guilty in 1997 to raping then-13-year-old Vili Fualaau. Letourneau served six-and-a-half years in prison for child rape, but maintained contact with Fualaau, who also fathered two of her own children.

After her release from prison, Letourneau and Fualaau married.
