TACOMA, Wash. - A group of Tacoma veterans is honoring Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan with a special memorial.

Veterans for Peace placed markers with the names of each soldier, their hometown, and their date of death at Marine Park in Tacoma.

The markers are on loan from the Olympia chapter of Veterans for Peace. It takes 20 people more than five hours to set up and dismantle the display.

The memorial is open to the public until sundown tonight, and from sunup to 5 p.m. Sunday.

With all due respect to our veterans, who have been lied to and crapped on by our government, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have NOTHING to do with peace. We had more peace before the wars, and with these wars we've only made the world a more dangerous place. US imperial expansion and foreign wars for oil and gas have nothing to do with peace. It's about money and oil, but we don't want to admit that our young are dying for capitalism, oil and power, so we honor them in the name of peace. What a shame we've become such a nation of sheep.

@Kingster.....well said. While we are at it, lets get out of Gremany, Italy, Japan and Korea, for a start. Lets start spending our money on our crumbling infrastructure. The Chinese have bullet trains from our wallmart spending.

Hamid Karzai is opening peace talks with the people we are fighting in Afghanistan in hopes of creating a government. I say we let him have his country and we bring home our troops. Let him try to deal with these gangsters on hisown. If he is that stupid, why waste any more American lives?
