SEATTLE -- A community comes together to protest the ones who have torn it apart. New Holly residents marched this evening to draw attention to their message.
In a neighborhood plagued with crime, fear is something residents know well. That fear however, is forcing neighbors into action.
Together, they marched along the very routes where their neighbors have been attacked, robbed and in some cases, killed. Chanting loudly, their intent was to inform everyone, criminals will no longer reign.
Patricia Paschal has lived in Southeast Seattle for thirty years. "I'm not going to allow miscreants to take away my ability to enjoy my community." Patricia says, "I had an instance where someone tried to grab me about a year ago." She surprised them and fought back.
Paschal says she understands the Seattle Police Department has limited resources but wishes more officers could be stationed at hot spots for crime.
Today SPD arrested three people accused of stealing from light rail passengers.
Paschal says that makes her feel better and that she looks forward to working with officers to make the streets safer.
"This is our community and we are going to protect it."
Marchers say they're looking forward to the day they can walk down the street without looking over their shoulder.
Monday there will be a public safety meeting in the Rainier Valley. Seattle's police chief will be there to address concerns.
