SEATTLE -- Seattle police are still looking for the person who shot a man to death next to a 76 gas station near downtown Seattle.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at the corner of Terry and James streets near Harborview Medical Center. A security guard working nearby heard three shots and called 911. When Seattle police arrived, they didn't see anything suspicious right away but heard an engine revving nearby.

Looking closer they found a pickup truck, inside was a man in his 50s. He had been shot in the head, his foot still on the accelerator pedal and car in park.

Police say even though this happened so close to the gas station, there were no eyewitnesses.

"The clerk didn't hear anything, no commotion outside, didn't hear the shots again. It was a security guard about a block away that heard it," said Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt.

Police say it does not appear the crime was random, but they are not discussing a reason the victim might have been targeted. Neighbors say random or not, crime in the neighborhood needs to stop.

"It's dangerous - too many shootings guns going off where I live, all the night sometimes," said Cynthia Allen, who lives nearby. "We hear them but we don't know where it's coming from."

Police say even though they haven't caught the killer yet, they are working through the investigation as quickly as possible to get the gunman off the streets. Police are gathering evidence, including what they hope is surveillance video that may have caught the gunman on camera.

The victim's name has not yet been released. If you have any information or saw anything suspicious in the area, you are urged to call Seattle police or Crimestoppers at 1-800 222-TIPS.

It's a good thing there's lots of gun control laws. We wouldn't want any law-abiding citizens to be able to defend themselves or their community.

You could be right! Better lock your doors and hide under your bed until I give the "all clear"

I wonder if this is related to the random drive by shooting in Tacoma a day or so ago. The person causing this grief might be moving north.

"shot dead in the head" Reporter Cabala is a poet and don't know it. The clerk, "Didn't hear the shots again." What? not even with an instant replay? Seriously though....My Ruger LCP is on order.....will be packing everywhere.

I'm sure the store clerk didn't hear the shooting because it was in English.

I would be questioning the Security Guard. Probably the same Armed Guard from the McDonalds shooting.
