SEATTLE - Don't get too comfortable with the warm temperatures we've been experiencing in the Northwest. One of the coldest air masses to reach the area in weeks is expected to move in this week. And that could mean a sprinkling of snow in some areas.

KING 5 forecaster Lisa Van Cise says high temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 40s, with snow levels dropping to around 1,000 feet on Monday night and even lower Tuesday.

A convergence zone could develop Monday night into Tuesday, which could mean light snowfall for some areas.

"I think the best shot to see anything in the way of lowland snow will be right along the Kitsap Peninsula and along Hood Canal, potentially on the higher hills north of Everett," said Van Cise.

The Portland-Vancouver area will see some rain, hail and a snow level down to about 1,000 feet.

A couple of inches of snow is expected in the Cascades.

The cold front is expected to move out by Friday.

Was I suppose to notice a difference in the weather? Seemed normal enough to me. Wasnt even any frost on my winshield this morning but there was last week. Isnt there enough things to attach drama to instead of "Highs in the upper 40's" ? Ok, so I'll wear a light jacket over my sweatshirt.

I put the Chains on "ALL" four wheels of my car last night. I had to drive to work this morning on dry pavement! My teeth are still sore from the 60 mile trip on I-5!

Oh my God, increased CO2! All you get with that is increased plant growth. You just end up with a greener earth that has more trees to hug.

@mtabholt you are partially right. Yes the earth goes through warming and cooling trends. And yes plants need CO2 but where you are missing the point is the rate at which the earth is currently warming and the rate at which the CO2 is accumulating. Both of which are rising faster then they would naturally.

I believe it... My niece's first birthday in March was supposed to be an outdoor party. My sister-in-law practically had a heart attack when it snowed the night before... That was 13 years ago in Kent.

It's the asphalt. Too many paved areas heat up the ground, don't you know. But seriously, we are simply in a warming trend which is cyclical and natural. Global warming is not man-made. Trees need CO2, so everybody take a deep breath then keep breathing.

Knowitall, you are full of bunk. There has never been a successful lawsuit against the Weather Service.

There was a law suit about 10 years ago where the plantif won against the weather service. the weather service gave a forecast of what was likely to happen. they did not include the possiblity of severe storms, which was unlikely. a man was killed in a severe storm. tha family sued the weather service and won millions. now all the forecasts are the worst possible outcome and not the likely outcome. thank the lawyers and ignore the doomsday forecasts.

The NWS seems to exaggerate lately. The weather is usually not as bad as they predict.
