A lawyer turned into a hero over something unusual he did in a Snohomish County courtroom.

Attorney David Benninger was delivering opening statements at a trial Wednesday afternoon when Juror Number 20 started having a a seizure.

Benninger jumped into the jury box and gave the juror CPR until paramedics arrived.

Benninger said at one point it appeared the juror stopped breathing. "Some people may have thought, let somebody else deal with it. For me, I was just the right person in the right place at the right time. He needed help. That's all I was concerned about."

Benninger was trained in first aid. The juror was taken to the hospital and is fine.

The judge in the case declared a mistrial.

June 1-7 is National CPR Awareness Week.

The American Heart Association is giving training in Hands Only CPR on Saturday, June 5 at Seattle's Green Lake.

The free class will be at the grassy area near the community center, weather permitting.

Well, jimd30, you may question the CPR for seizures, but apparently it worked!

well... in fairness... sometimes people will have what are called "hypoxic seizures" when they first go into cardiac arrest secondary to a lack of oxygen to the brain. Hard to say if "that" was the cause of the witnessed seizure activity or not, or whether this might have been a simple seizure. Regardless, it remains that the Seattle/King County area has the highest cardiac arrest survival rates in the nation... and citizen CPR is most certainly an important part of that.
