SEATTLE – Normal Link light rail service frequencies are expected to resume at 5 a.m. Tuesday morning following removal of a disabled light rail train blocking the southbound tracks in Seattle's SoDo area.

A Sound Transit Link Light Rail train derailed on a ramp near the SoDo train yard. A Sound Transit spokesperson said the train was blocking the northbound and southbound light rail tracks. It was just coming into service, so nobody was on board. The operator was not hurt.

The cause of the derailment was not immediately released.

Passengers were directed to temporary bus service operating between the Stadium and Mount Baker light rail stations.

Video from the scene shows the part of the train on one set of tracks, then sitting perpendicular on another set of tracks.

Another train was able to squeeze by the accident scene on another set of tracks. Maintenance workers could be seen walking on the tracks, investigating the problem.

Looks like the first car went right at the switch, and the last set of wheels decided to go the otherway.

I am not sure why everyone is getting upset over normal mechanical problems. Doesn't matter what city you are in or how good the mass transportation system is, there will always be something that will come up. The Central Link is functioning as it was intended and will eventually see a much higher use as the metropolitan area grows. Perhaps those who are complaining should try riding the Link or any other mass transportation and help the cause than riding in your cars complaining about it. I don't see anyone blogging about the mechanical problems of their own cars or how about mechanical problems of airplanes.

Oh my! Maybe I should have designed wheels instead of tires on these trains?

I rode home from the Airport last night... The ride took an hour and a half, when the train got to the Sodo station, we were told that the train was going out of service, and that we had to disembark.... No shuttle-bus anywhere, just thrown out in to the rain in the middle of Sodo at 1130.... The handling of this was Bush league, we should have been told in Tukwila that no trains were maing it through and advised of alternate means home...
