PUYALLUP, Wash. -- The discovery of a large stash of illegal fireworks prompted the evacuation of several apartments in Puyallup Thursday evening.

It happened at the River Trail Apartments on East Main Street.

The multi-agency investigation included officers from the Puyallup Tribal Police Department, Puyallup Police Department, Pierce County Sheriff's Office, and ATF.

It began a few days ago, when a tip came into the Puyallup Tribal Police Department about a large cache of illegal fireworks.

Authorities served a search warrant on several storage units located inside the River Trail Apartments.  Inside they found professional grade, illegal fireworks that are considered highly dangerous when in the wrong hands.

Nearby apartments were evacuated as officers loaded up dozens of boxes of fireworks into a truck and removed them from the scene.

A Puyallup man in his 40's was taken into custody.  He is expected to be booked into the Pierce County Jail on several charges relating to the possession and distribution of illegal fireworks.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes at about 12 a.m.
