LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Lakewood police shot and killed a man in a confrontation Tuesday night at a duplex in the Tillicum area when he refused orders to drop a gun and made a threatening move, Lt. Jeff Alwine said.
Officers had been looking for the man because he was wanted on an arrest warrant accusing him of felony theft. He was well-known to police from previous contacts and they believed he was armed, Alwine said.
A tip led them to the duplex about 11:15 where two officers saw the suspect through a broken window.
He refused orders to come out. The officers saw that he had a gun, and he did not comply with orders to drop the weapon, Alwine said.
"At some point he did something to lead the officers to believe he was an immediate threat so they fired on him," he said.
The 28-year-old Lakewood man died at the scene.
No officers were injured and there was no one else in the duplex.
