LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- A 22-year-old Lakewood mother was arrested Thursday night for the death of her infant son.
The woman was arrested for first degree manslaughter. Her 3-month-old son died January 13 after she told police she found him tipped over in his car seat.
According to Assistant Chief Michael Zaro of Lakewood Police, the 22-year-old mother told police she put the baby to sleep in the car seat. When she woke up, she said the car seat was upside down over the boy, and he was dead.
After multiple interviews, the mother revealed she put the baby in the car seat and tucked in a blanket around his face so his pacifier wouldn't come out. Detectives said she stated she accidentally killed her baby.
The woman also told police she took the boy's body out of his car seat and put him in a corner with the car seat upside down over him, hoping her boyfriend would find the body and she wouldn't be blamed for the death.
The woman was arrested at her apartment on the 5700 block of Hillcrest Drive and remains in the Pierce County Jail.
Detectives learned she has two other children who were removed from her custody because she physically assaulted them.
