Key Peninsula firefighter involved in early morning collision

KEY PENINSULA, Wash. – Three people were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after an emergency SUV and another car collided.

It happened around midnight at the intersection of Corwall Road and Key Peninsula Highway S.
Accident responders say the battalion chief got a call from a medic unit, requesting help for a patient. The battalion chief turned on his lights and sirens.

He was traveling north on Key Peninsula Highway. At the same time, a Honda Accord was turning off Cornwall Road onto the highway. The battalion chief t-boned the car.

The battalion chief and two people in the Accord were taken to St. Joseph’s in Tacoma. The battalion chief was complaining of chest injuries and difficulty breathing at the scene, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The conditions of the two other victims were not immediately known.

Investigators are still trying to determine who was at fault.
