SEATTLE - KeyArena hasn’t hosted a NBA game since 2008. Is it ready now?
“The reality is that it could host an NBA game right now,” said Seattle Center Director Robert Nellams, as he sat in the stands Thursday night.
He denied that work is already being done to prepare the building for a Sonics return, but “there will be enough dates so you can do 41 games.”
Nellams suggested potential improvements to the tech infrastructure at the Arena would likely be a priority for the NBA, as well as concessions for fans.
“You’d really need to update the technology (of this building) that’s in the 90’s, and bring that up to speed,” he said.
He conceded that the $7 million dollars pledged by Chris Hansen for temporary improvements won’t fix a lot.
“Seven million in an arena doesn’t go a long way,” he said.
