A new KING 5 poll finds Washington state voters are very divided on the issue of gay marriage.

In a poll of 617 registered voters statewide on landlines and cell phones, KING 5 and SurveyUSA asked specifically, “If the legislature were to approve marriage for same-sex couples, and you were asked to approve or reject the law, how would you vote?”

In our poll, 47% said they would approve the law, while 46% said they would reject it; 7% said they weren’t sure.  The poll has a margin of +/-4%.

Gay marriage supporters are trying to pass a bill through the legislature during this session, but have not secured enough votes in the state senate.  Opponents say if the legislature were to pass a bill, they would collect signatures to force a referendum on the issue.

In the poll, younger voters were far more likely to support gay marriage with 50% saying they’d approve a measure, compared to 39% support among voters over age 65.  While voters in the King, Pierce and Snohomish County region voiced 50% support for a bill, voters in eastern Washington rejected the idea 54% to 38%.

The poll also found women voters more inclined to approve gay marriage (52% to 41% reject) than men (43% to 52% reject).

I hope there's nothing barbaric with holding the view that homosexuality is not a lifestyle choice. It is a perversion. While I don't mind how two people spend their time in bed and with whom, here is another opportunity for some minority class to sue for discrimination. Is there no decency left in this world to allow for sensible thinking folks to be abhorred by deviant behavior?

@Emptynester there is nothing wrong with young voters I look at you as being the same as those older people who were angry with young voters for supporting civil rights. The young people then knew as the young people today know that you cant treat a portion of the population as lesser people. And please stop using the Bible says this and the Bible says that stuff. That same argument was used to justify slavery which I would hope even you would say that that was wrong and an unchristian thing to have done.

I'm rather offended that some people presume to know God's wishes and thought process. Did it ever occur to you that God intentionally made LGBTQ folks and therefore it was His wish to do so? Who are you to decide what His intentions are? Do you not believe that God will make His will known in His own good time and only if he decides to? I wouldn't want to be in your shoes come judgement day for presuming to know God's mind. And you can site the bible if you wish, but who are you to say since the bible was written, God hasn't changed his mind or decided to tweak things abit? LGBTQ people didn't create themselves ya know.

monroe527 - your god also allows men to marry multiple wives and states that women must be virgins in order to marry. So are you saying that anything in the bible is a "go"? Meaning we stone those who have committed adultery or stone women who are not virgins, ban the consumption of shellfish, ban the manufacture or wearing of mixed fabrics, ban working on the sabbath, ban touching the skin of a pig (sorry football fans), etc. etc. etc.? That's a lot of bans, assuming that you're advocating to live as your god's bible dictates.

I agree with emptynestr. I believe marriage for between a man and woman. That is what God's intention was. Anything else is not correct or "natural".

Emptynester - By your logic, marriage between people who don't want kids shouldn't be allowed. What I don't understand is why anyone cares who you marry as long as they are consenting adults. And don't give me the "sanctity of marriage" argument, straight couples have been destroying that for decades.

Younger voters also don't have a clue as to why it is not right nor acceptable either. They apparently haven't been taught why we are made the way we are and why there IS a MALE and a FEMALE to complement each other AND for procreation. How is same sex relationships made for procreation??? They aren't and therefore they are UNNATURAL. So I don't consider their approval to mean anything if they don't understand what they are replying to. Polls in this regard are only opinions whether they are educated or not. Just because somebody FEELS a certain way doens't necessarily make it right. There is NO OTHER NATURAL WAY for procreation other than between a man and a woman. Two men can't and two women can't except through ARTIFICIAL MEANS. Think of the kids who have to live without knowing their biological parent and who have no sense of IDENTITY or connection. I have seen the hurt and confusion. It breaks my heart.
