A man stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord may face DUI charges after a fiery crash on Interstate 5 in Federal Way that left his passenger severely injured.

It happened around 4 a.m. Saturday. According to the News Tribune, the Washington State Patrol said the driver of a 2003 BMW was headed south when the car crossed the median and hit a sign post.

The car caught fire. The driver, 21, was able to get his injured passenger, a 29-year-old woman, out before the car became fully engulfed.

The driver was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way with leg injuries. His passenger was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with severe internal injuries.

Alcohol or drugs and high speed are believed to be factors. WSP asks anyone with information to call 425-401-7742.
