Anyone surprised by King County Metro Transit's "mistake", who actually believes they "refused to consider" the ramifications of allowing anti-Semitic hate speech to be published on their buses, or who fails to recognize that America (although not all Americans) has pretty much withdrawn its support of Israel in favor of terrorists who accurately believe deliberately blowing up civilians is a great way to get Americans to back down, has earned whatever shock their naivete brings them. I wonder whether the KCMT would have the same arrogant argument if there were a swastika on the ad- which, given its content, there ought to be. The important lesson here is that both the Seattle bus company and the King County council refused to consider the ramifications of promoting lies attacking Israel (a bulldozed house during a war in response to thousands of terror attacks in the form of random missile launches at Israeli civilians) until they were forced to allow equal opportunity for ads about ACTUAL Palestinian crimes against humanity (suicide bomb attacks on public buses). Thank goodness for the David Horowitz Freedom Center holding a mirror up to Metro and to the council members, so that they could do some much-needed soul-searching.

This is not about "Arab vs. Jew", nor is it a centuries old conflict. People of different ethnicities and religions (including Arab Jews) have been living in the Holy Land in peace for hundreds of years. Since the end of the Crusades until the rise of Zionism in the 20th century, yes different powers have swept in and taken control, one from the other, but by and large the region had been pretty peaceful. Even today there are many Jews, Israelis and diaspora Jews who are eager for Israel to admit to its war crimes, cease its constant attacks on Gaza and withdraw from the West Bank and reach a peace settlement based on true sovereignty for Palestine and borders approximating those previous to 1967. Most Palestinians would be very agreeable to that, and even Hamas has said they would respect a Palestinian plebescite to that effect. But if the ads had just run, who'd have noticed? Thanks for the objectors who are bringing huge attention to this issue!

After September 11th our president told us and the world he was going to root out all terrorists and the countries that supported them. Beautiful. Then the Israelis, after months and months of having the equivalent of an Oklahoma City every week (and then every day) start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint. If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would all very shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done with it and kill everything south of the Mediterranean and east of the Jordan. Palestine occupied the ancient land of Israel, in turn was occupied by various colonial powers, and finally re-occupied by the Jews. So the Palestinians portray themselves as victims, conveniently forgetting the wars of Arabic aggression that grabbed most of the Mediterranean and Spain. So hypocritical of Israel's critics to forget that they themselves live in a country that used to belong to somebody else.

Metro was perfectly willing to run anti-Israel ads until pro-Israel people wanted to run ads of their own. Then suddenly they have a new policy prohibiting all such ads. Metro's bias is so transparent as to be unbelievable. I guess it is much more dangerous to allow anti-Palestinian ads than it is to allow anti-Israel ads. Why is that? Shoreline, actually the opposition had some pretty powerful messages ready to go on busses if the first set made it. I think it was smart to stop before violence started, which was inevitable. Of course there will probably be violence because of the lack of signs now. I guess it shows that they will kill as many as they can to show how peaceful they are. Pretty soon the "Pork, the other white meat" ad campaign will be deemed offensive to some people.

It's very fortuitous for the Taxpayers and Citizens of the region; that our boys on the King County Metro Transit Council had an 'Enlightening-Epiphany Thursday,' regarding this matter of political-ads running on the sides of Seattle buses. ...... Fortunately for the Taxpayers and Citizens; the Metro Council Halted the proposed-ad campaign Defaming Israel. But that isn't the sole primary reason for the decision.. The Council was Forced to admit that allowing such Inflamatory- ads from any group was going to have a very deleterious effect in a number of ways in Seattle. Complacency in these matters doesn't work. ..... This is not censorship. Both groups have numerous other options open to them in their attempt to get their message across. It was a good decision by Metro. When something is as inflammatory as this promised to be, the best policy is to drop it altogether. In a time of lean budgets, it's difficult to turn away revenue, but it was likely the costs were going to be greater than the revenue anyway.

The government cannot interfere with the publishing of a viewpoint on your own property or with the publishing of an article book/paper etc within reason as determined by the supreme court. It can; however, refuse to publish your viewpoint on it's own buses/property just as any other private citizen can. You can't BUY first amendment rights on someone else's turf. Nuh uh. I really wish people would understand their own rights before making stupid comments.
