MAYTOWN, Wash. - A mother of four feared an intruder was going to hurt, and perhaps kill her children Sunday morning.

"We were scared to death," said Sharon, who did not want her last name published.

Investigators say a 26-year-old man broke into the family's Maytown home around 2 a.m. Sunday. Detectives said he had been drinking at the nearby Maytown Tavern before kicking down the family's front door.

"He kept telling us 'I'm going to get you guys'," said Sharon.

While the man was trying to break-in, the mother said she grabbed her four children, ranging in age from 7 to 14, and barricaded everyone within the family's back bedroom while they called 911.

Sharon said once the man was inside, he ran to the back of the house and tried to kick in the bedroom door.

Sharon's 14-year-old son pushed a dresser in front of the door and held it there until his mother and sisters got out a window to safety. He then followed his family out of the window.

"He's my hero," said Sharon.

Police arrested the accused intruder while he was still in the home.

Sharon's husband Randy had been hunting that night. Randy said the intruder was lucky he wasn't home.

"I have a number of firearms," said Randy.

The alleged intruder was booked into the Thurston County Jail on burglary charges.

I am the owner of the Maytown Tavern. Since my last post, I have had a long discussion with the bartender on duty that evening. She informs me that she DID NOT serve Mr. McAllister any alchohol after 10 pm on the evening in question. He was in and out of the bar several times after 10 pm, but was not served any alchohol in the bar. He broke into the house at approximately 2:15 am...over 4 hours after being served in our bar. Of all the articles published about this incident, not one person from King 5 News, The Olympian or the Thurston County Sheriff's office has contacted us to hear our side of the story. As far as being a "cesspool for drug addicts", Valuedopinion obviously does not know us. My husband and I both are about as anti-drug as you can get and I know most of our customers would take great offense to being referred to as drug addicts. All I ask is that if you are going to point the finger of blame at someone, you have all your facts straight.

The bar owner neglected to mention that he served him for over eight hours at his bar. The people who's house was busted into live directly across from the bar. what do they expect. Why is it that if a bar serves someone and the patron goes out driving and kills someone then the bar is liable but in this case the bar isn't? That bar is a cesspool for drug addicts and known to serve till you can't walk. I hope someone holds them to their responsiblilty of overserving James.

James called me from the bar at 4pm and he didn't leave till closing. Why isn't the bar owner being held somewhat liable?? They are liable if someone leaves their bar and kills someone with their car. Those people live directly across from the bar and what do they expect? peace and quiet? That bar should be shut down.

I agree with the last post. I've known him very closely for a long time and everyone is being the media's puppets and being too quick to judge. FUNNY HOW NO ONE BLAMES MAYTOWN BAR AT ALL!! The bar owner felt obligated to say that the bar had been closed for over an hour but he neglected to say that james had been drinking there since early in the afternoon and stayed till closing. So how much booze can someone drink in eight hours??? Why didn't the bar owner tell james to leave and cut him off?? If you've ever been to the Maytown bar you know what I'm talking about. Even the reporter from king 5 made fun of it. LMAO.

This is simply sensationalized media reporting. Saying this kid was there to terrorize and burglarize these people.wow what a great headline!! Bet alot of people loved it. Look at the mob mentality of these other posts. Its sad because I know that guy and there's no way in hell he'd ever burglarize anyone! The kid wouldnt hurt a fly. He was drunk from the bar, met some people and the guy thought he was hitting on his wife and pulled a gun on him..James and his DOG ran to the nearest house across the street and banged on the door yelling for help..the people were freaked out went out the window. James was beligerent drunk..and only needed to call the police. i dont think its cool how he went about saving himself scaring those people but I assure you it wasnt to burglarize or terrorize them..thats crazy. The guy has a good job ih the community why would he burglarize someone from Maytown of all places and bring his dog..and be in the living room when the cops show up.

Good ending to a Bad story ! Thats what drugs and alcohol do for ya ! Think What a Powerful and Heathy Country we could become if we could learn to live without Drugs and Alcohol. Moderation seems like a good Idea but it is not those who use in moderation who become the problem. And if you are one who can use in moderation couldn't you live without it and learn to have a heathy habit instead. I am just thinking. I am going to make an extra effort not to drink alcohol this holiday season because it maybe one of the few I have left and I want to be very aware so that I can take in every detail. Happy Thanksgiving To all .

Sounds like EVERYONE was fortunate that night. The family was lucky that they were able to gather together and evacuate the home, and the intruder was lucky he didn't get his head blown off.

I am the owner of the Maytown Tavern and would like to clarify that although it is my understanding Mr. McAllister was in our tavern that evening, the tavern had been closed approximately 1 1/2 hours before this incident took place. I have also been told Mr. McAllister consumed a large amount of whiskey after leaving the tavern. I cannot imagine how horrifying this had to be for Sharon and her family and my thoughts and prayers are with them.

This is very simple....Let the husband loose on the intruder- It saves the tax payers money, and gives the family true justice.

The kids and wife should be trained to use the fire arms in the house and that POS wouldn't have a chance to do that again.
