SEATTLE - They came from as far away as Yakima and Walla Walla, all in support of immigration reform.

"There are Latinos, there are Asians, there are African-Americans, Filipinos and Somalis!" yelled Leah Burton as she handed out flags to bystanders.

Among those in the crowd, 17-year-old high school senior Carlos Padilla.

"I came when I was 2 years old," he said.

Carlos has spent most of his life in Seattle, but he's still considered an illegal alien. Like many of the illegals in this crowd, Carlos says he's always looking over his shoulder.

"Every day I think about that all of these things that I'm doing here and immigration could come one day to pick me up," he said.

Carlos is an example of what immigration reform advocates are hoping to change. Among the issues, immigrants caught up in a backlog of paperwork to become legal. There are also more than 12 million undocumented people, working for decades under the radar.

"We need to recognize the workers supporting this country and all of these people from all these nations," said Burton.

But Burton and others recognize this is a difficult battle to fight. Some legislators may be hesitant to take on such a big issue after the overhauling of health care.

"The reality is immigration reform is a tough issue we know it's a tough issue politically but it shouldn't be," said One America spokesperson Pramila Jayapal.

Despite his status, Carlos says he still plans to graduate and go on to the University of Washington.

"I decided to make them not dreams but goals because I can accomplish them," he said.

Carlos says he and the millions of others here in America believe the risks are worth the effort.

"These are people who have worked and struggled under a tough system, and they're not going to rest until it happens," said Pramila Jayapal of Washington Immigration Reform Coalition.

The group is pushing for a bill to be introduced into Congress by May 1.

If condemming illegal and rude behavior is racist then so be it. I must be a rascist for loving my country and traditional American values. I didn't think I was a racist, but under the Obamanation I now am so defined. Ok. I am still against illegal entry and corrupted senators. I must be getting more racist all the time because I am getting madder and madder at the scumbags in power.

Well Ellie , Ellie, Ellie......nice ruse. Are you trying to tell me that when 12 illegals occupy a home with 8 kids they are paying their fair share of taxes as the person next door that has 1 kid? Are you telling me when I go to the emergency room am grilled for proof of insurance or ability to pay while non-english speaking patients are pulled to the front, offered translators and not given a bill that they are paying their fair share. Are you telling me that when an illegal steals the SS # of a US Citizen and leave that citizen having to deal with thie IRS for failure to report the income earned by the illegal and charged additional taxes, penalities etc, the illegal has done their "fair share" Are you telling me that when illegals by the millions purchased homes using sub-prime mortgages then defaulted leaving US taxpayers to bail out the banks, that the illegals are doing their fair share. I didn't think so

These criminal illegal aliens claim to want a voice? The voice that should be heard by our Representatives is the VOICE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE not the voices that don't belong here and should be deported by ICE. Since when in our history did a foreign country INVADE the United States by entering illegally and having many babies that are illegally issued a birth certificate? No birth certificates should be given to children of illegal aliens as the 14 th amendment was not written for them. It was written for the children of American slaves. Stop the degradation of our county's laws! DEPORT and no amnesty ever again!

First of all, there were THOUSANDS at that rally, not hundreds. Get it right, KING5. Secondly, I am so embarrassed to see the number racist, ignorant comments on this news story. Immigrants make up the backbone of our society. They harvest our food, do the jobs no one else wants to do, pay sales tax, and get nothing in return. You may argue that immigrants eat away at social benefits, but if you actually do your homework, you will find that this is not the case. Immigrants actually contribute more than they get from the system. Our immigration system is broken. Foreign-born war veterans who fought for the safety of all Americans have died waiting for their families to be able to join them. People want to come here legally. They want to use the system. FIX IT so that it actually works.

Park buses at all Walmarts and ER's. Load 'em all up and take 'em to the border. As they get off the bus, hand 'em an AK-47 with 100 rounds of ammo, point 'em south and tell 'em they can apply to come to the USA after they've cleaned up their own country!

People who want fairness and justice, as the sign in the photo above indicates, shouldn't behave in ways that are unfair and unjust, as illegal aliens are. Their actions are unfair and unjust to legal immigrants and citizens whom the displace from jobs, and whose tax monies they use to fund their own irrresponsible behavior, such as having kids they can't afford.

First of all, there is no such thing as " illegal immigrant" you're either illegal or an immigrant. Immigrants are those who immigrated ( meaning they went through the process, by applying, waiting and paying to be legal). Second, as an immigrant, I find it offensive that someone feels they have the right to come to the U.S ( or any other country for that matter) knowing full well that they were breaking laws and after a few years expect to just be handed a green card. It costs a small fortune to get a green card, but I looked at it as an investment in my future. I suppose some say that others don't have the funds to do it, my answer is: I would love to drive a Mercedes, I can't afford one, so my choices are, either I save money and one day by a Mercedes or just keep driving the old Dodge truck, I'm not going to steal one. If we're going to give away green cards, then I expect a full refund on the 10 grand i spent to get mine.

Not a balanced report. What are the barriers to legal immigration? What then should be changed or is the contention presented here that unconditional amnesty must be granted? And if we see another amnesty, please examine the consequences for future immigration control -- if any is still feasible. Cynics (who still could be proven right) are saying the amnesty will precede the next election so grateful new citizens can vote to retain their benefactors. Critics (who also may be right, occasionally) say that would reward illegal behavior and do little to assure that the new citizens reject the underground economy that currently accommodates them and little to encourage them to get driver's licenses, insurance, and all the other burdens of legitimate participation.

Decide for yourself whether we are in a world of hurt, with unparalleled Illegal immigration and what as law abiding citizens can do about, it’s now and future impact? Involved heavily in this, is increased and out-of-control overpopulation that will follow any AMNESTY, with chain migration of family migration, adding millions of more people to our already exhausted ecosystem and government entitlements? ABUNDANTLY CLEAR IS THAT THE POLITICIANS IN WASHINGTON CAN AMEND IMMIGRATION LAWS IN THE 1986 IMMIGRATION CONTROL & REFORM ACT. LEARN WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR FAMILY AND AMERICA at NUMBERSUSA with over a million members. Here you will find a condemnation-list of man-women who--MUST--be retired from Washington and state seats in future elections. For accepting or catering to the illegal immigration occupancy on our soil, and this must begin with Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) in midterm? Senators and representatives like Reid for not enforcing laws have already bankrupted Nevada.

And all you people who are concerned with there not being enough work to go around. America needs nursing aids in our hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes. The pay is about 10 t 16 bucks an hour, and with the baby bombers getting older the need is only going to be greater in the future. On the job training is provided. Some personal care of client/patients will required. Hiring now! Stop crying about there not being any work out their. If you are willing to work there is work out there. No mater where your from or how you got hear, or what collar your skin is. I have been working since I was 13 years old and have never felt that I was in competition with an undocumented worker.

Point is that when my ancestors came to America a couple of hundred years ago, it was not illegal. They were not illegal. They had honor. Keep in mind that where these illegals come from, that corruption is normal and their way of life. I don't know why we would want them to bring that here. The best way to start a life in America is to obey the law and respect our culture and our flag.

The democrats feel that by encouraging illegal immigration, that they will eventually build a massive liberal party that will be in total control. What I don't understand is. if Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell want to lead a bunch of Mexicans, then why don't they go to Mexico? Why not create the worker's paradise in Mexico? Why do they want to torment me? I really wonder why the Dems hate me so much? George Bush Republicans want a servant class and otherwise really low wages. They want workers who live in cardboard shacks. Well... the some politicians already go smart and just sent our jobs out of the country. But they still need servants. I guess if I were willing to do their laundry for room and board, then things would be better. I guess I don't favor illegals because I am not demanding a supply of servants.

So what if my mom was an undocumented house wife from Japan and my father was a white native born US citizen and I was conceived and born on US soil, and served in the US Military. Would you say that I should be sent to Japan, and that I should not be consider a citizen of the US? Also, any time any of us goes over the speed limit, downloads or copies music and videos on the inter net or just at home, or does not use the cross walk, we can all be considered law breakers. But that's all OK? Many of these people have good jobs, own property, run business. What about all the white trash on welfare! with 5 kids and two or three boyfriends coming and going living subsidized housing? If were kick people out lets kick out all the people who are not providing to society. Let just send all of our unwanted and undesirable people to a private far away island so we do not have to deal with them. Oh wait, that is how a lot of our ancestors got here and US was started.

Committing serious crimes and flooding our jails is not fair and just! Corrupting our politicians and everything else they come into contact with is not fair and just! The list goes on and on.... Sorry about the typing errors in the previous comment. Anyway, I am tired of being called a racist because I am a White United State citizen who speak out against what is wrong. And when I am constantly hearing statement like" draw unemployment so the illegals can work in our country. We do not need any reform, we need the our employees "Government agent" to do their job and follow the laws already in place. I have seen ICE (customs) come to the local cannery walk across a dock full of illigal Hispanics and on to a Candian Fishing vessel to make sure their paper was in order before we could of load. When a co-worker ask if they were here because of the illegals workers, the custom agent stated, no we don't about them today, just the candians. In the last 5 years we have never seen immigrations visiting the plant. I have also seen Personal Department tell US citizens the company wasn't hiring the time and then turn around a put an hispanic right to work. Think about it.

These people don't have to work and struggle under out "tough system". Why don't they take all the energy and protesting back to their countries and change their own government and improve their way of life instead of forcing their problems on us. As for the job sitiuation, look at those americans who would rather live on welfare instead of working for minimum wage. Unless a person is not physically able to work, there is no reason why they should not be out there working. I know of an illegal man who was arrested for beating his wife, guess what, he gets a green can and now can stay legally in the US for at least 2 years which should give him time to become a citiezen if he wants. He does't even have to go through anger management, no children services coming into home to monitor the situation, and to top it all he keeps is job wherehe has been working illegally for the past 5 plus years. All is ok, it is their custom.

If every illegal immigrant left tomorrow, our economy would be in a shambles. Farmers would be in trouble. Our food sources would all be threatened. Nobody would fill the gap,and we would all soon realize these people, for the most part, are not taking our jobs. These are jobs we don't want, but without them we would all be paying $10 for a dozen eggs and nobody could afford Yakima apples. Seriously, pull your heads out of your rear ends with all the racist and uninformed comments. Not a single one of the people here on this forum would take those jobs.

You can't have it both ways. If you are against immigration and having people from Mexico come to the US, then maybe those of you who don't have jobs would be willing to work for some of these companies chasing and plucking chickens for $1 an hour. So easy to go after the workers and not the real culprit, the corporations.

America does not need immigration reform; instead we need government officials to follow the laws we already have. Illegal aliens should be deported to their home countries immediately upon being discovered. If they do not want to be separated from their families, we should allow them to take their wife/husband and children with them. America can't afford to keep supporting these people with free medical/food stamps. They should not have the ability to have a drivers license or bank account either, unless it would be a way to track them and then deport them. My family came to America many years ago; but my parents went through the legal process. It took my parents many years to complete the process; but it was worth it in the long run. Just look at the crime statistics all over the west coast and see how many crimes are being committed by illegal Mexicans, and when given bail, just cross over the border and laugh at our justice system.

Should I have to move to find a better life because the immigrants have taken all of our jobs for less pay. They are not paying into social security. We are being told that we will most not likely receive social security because it is being used up by others that have never paid into it such as immigrants. Even drivers licenses, were about the only state in the nation that provides drivers licenses to illegal’s.. Look at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they do nothing anymore, there a huge waste of an agency that tries to do other law enforcement jobs other than what they were hired to do, get rid of illegal’s causing problems.. Look at Yakima and cities like that our even out towards the coast, there overran with illegal’s and crimes caused by them. Something needs to be done. Where was INS, ICE or Homeland Security? We keep hearing illegal immigrants are hard to find. Well guess what? There was a good amount in downtown Seattle yesterday! Come on now! I have no problem with immigrants coming here legally. I do have a problem with those here ILLEGALLY! Deport those people regardless of whatever sad story they tell and let them start the process legally. We also need a constitutional amendment that stops the automatic citizenship for people born in this country. It needs to be replaced with one that stipulates that citizenship is based on the status of the childs parents, both of them. If they aren't legal citizens then neither should the child.

Some call these people "undocumented"let's look at some other names we can use for other acts. Bank robber;unauthorized bank withdrawal. Do they get to keep the money ? Burglar;non-authorized home entrant . Do they get to keep your TV,stereo? Rapist;unauthorized sexual participant. Do they get to stay with the unwilling participant? There are many in south of the border countries waiting to come her legally. Call and ask ,they have filed to come, but can't because of the line cutters.

I agree that this is not a specific race issue and anyone who claims that it is, is about as ignorant as mr jackwong. Seriously, no one in this country, including all of us that are here legally are Entitled to anything. We're not entitled to healthcare, higher education, and most of all citizenship. After reading the comment by jackwong, I can confidently say, "MORON!" So because someone is being good, the fact that they started their path by breaking the law should be overlooked? So in your little delusional world, I could theoretically be free of consequence if I were to donate $50,000 to charity, even though it was money I had obtained by stealing from someone or robbing a business? Was the method of getting the money illegal? YES Did i know it beforehand? YES But that's okay because the ends justify my means....Wake up dude! If I did this in reality, I would expect to be behind bars. The law is the law. Period. Our laws keep us safe and free of the anarchistic insanity that would surely develop if everyone was allowed to just run around and do whatever they wanted to, just because their intentions were good. And racist? Get a clue, and try to support you idea with facts not BS! Whites can and do get kicked out. ANYONE choosing to illegally enter the US should be booted!

Most of these people are hard working people who pay taxes, pay into our socail securtiy(without hopes of every getting anything back out of it) own homes and pay taxes on those homes, pay taxes on everything they buy in our stores here in Washington. They have done one thing wrong, and that was to cross an invisable line to pursue a destiny. Gee it seems that when we first got to this country we had a Manifest desitny ourselves.

Are we a nation of laws or just a bunch of kindergarteners pretending to be adults? What part of illegal don’t people understand? When did it become OK to thumb one’s nose at the law abiding citizens of this nation and then make demands? Allowing this to go on and on and on, is as stupid as the 9/10th cent on the price of gas.

Have folks read some of these posts? Amazing, the one I like the most said " They are entitled to healthcare, higher education, and most importantly - a citizenship." Key word there is "ENTITLED" and my question is who is going to pay for all these entitlements? The system cannot support 13 million more entitled people that are here illegally, just in case, key word: "ILLEGALLY" Everyone is welcome as long as it's legal, key word: "LEGAL"

I have no problem with legal immigration but I have a huge problem with illegal immigrants asking for amnesty just because they have managed not to get caught for many years. We need to as a country decide how to proceed because many illegal immigrants are working hard and following the American dream. It may be we need to deport those that are abusing the system. Either way we need to decide as a country because this is an issue that affects all of us in some way.

Tonya Mosley is lying, it was not a HUGE rally. The liberal media obviously has their own bias agenda. Shame on you.

Anyone who opposes amnesty to long-time illegal immigrants can only be called racist and nothing else. How are they different from anyone who was born here when they contributed to America for so long? Nothing... so get rid of the legal stigma! They are entitled to healthcare, higher education, and most importantly - a citizenship.

see! i whole-heartedly agree with everything delawarebob said. stated clearly and without singling out a single race. stick to issues and leave out personal attacks.not hard to do! leave out the racist rants about mexicans or somalies, and you get a lot more support.

I agree that we need real immigration reform! Let's start by ending this birth-right citizenship for illegal aliens. Let's stop teaching these illegal alien children and stop them from getting welfare, food stamps and public housing at taxpayers expense! Let's get some real reform that will end FREE healthcare for illegal aliens in this Country. Let's get a VERY STIFF fine for entering this Country illegally and overstaying a VISA! Yes, let's start with this reform, and then pass a law that EVERY state use E-Verify in ALL businesses and social services. Let's charge every illegal alien a $5,000 fine if we have to depot them. Yes, how’s that for starters? What gives these illegal aliens the right to demonstrate on American soil and demand amnesty? Yes, what? Illegal aliens have NO RIGHT to demand anything in this Country. Get them back to their own Country where they have EVERY RIGHT to demand anything they want. Get our immigration laws ENFORCED!!! NO AMNESTY!!

daryleb, 5 out of 8 didn't involve race but 3 of the 8 did! that was my point. some people can talk rational without letting race be their motivating factor. i commend anyone that can stick to the issue at hand. just trying to call a spade a spade!

daryleb, wasn't talkin" 'bout you! talkin' 'bout the ones picking RACES to exclude. yes, alot of some illegals in the crowd and i.n.s. should have been there to deport, but all were not. race is when you single out races as was done inearlier posts. do we also exclude canadians or english that work at microsoft, if they are here illegally? you don't just accept certain behavior because the offenders are white! carl, think i'll go watch blazing saddles. good movie about how ignorant some white folks can be if given a forum!

Have you people noticed that a huge TEA party rally in Olympia with ten thousand protesters turned into "hundreds" by KING5 and other media. Now a couple hundred illegal aliens turns into a "Huge Rally." Its not hard to see where the blind bigot reporters agenda is located. They don't deserve a broadcast license.

Hey Crazy I am not a racist race plays no part in my veiws. I am an American. These illegal aliens come from everywhere and I balieve they should all be treated the same whether their from mexicon somalia or england oranywhere else. Illegal alien only defines a certain race to a racist. That being so maybe you should look to your own racial feelings a quite being a hypocrite. Out of the 8 comments that were made here 5 of them dont mentoin race at all and on is about something off the wall the other mention mexico and your two comments so where is the bias.

The only "reform" these illegal aliens need is a one way ticket back to wherever they came from.

We don't need no stinking "immigration reform" amigos. That is just a buzz word for amnesty. No, No and again I say NO! 1. Secure the borders. 2. Enforce the existing laws already on the books. 3. Find a way to sue and collect from the offending country of illegals to reimburse US Taxpayers for the cost of taking care of their citizens while they were here illegally.

My idea of immigration reform would be to deny welfare and SSI benefits to immigrants (and US Citizens) that are able to work, but refuse to do so. DSHS needs to not only have their budget cut by 75% but also have strict guidelines of Welfare to Work. Refuse to work, benefits terminated. I know people that have been on welfare for 15 years and have never worked a day in their whole life... Somebody tell me what's wrong with this picture. Come to Washington without being willing to work hard and you're in a world of hurt. That's my idea of immigration reform.

Why would I listen to what Carlos says in this matter. He has no say as far as I'm concerned he is not an American. He has been here for 17 Yrs and still has not become a citizen. That tells me that his parents are probably illegals too. Now he wants to try to affect change? Should we change the laws for felons who what to carry guns so that when they get caught they dont go back to jail? No? Then why should we change the law for this group of criminals that cause a drain on our society? They do jobs that others dont want to do. Thats a load we all know that if they wernt here others that are here legaly would do those jobs and more than likly get paid a little more. The price of vegis and friut would go up if that happened. Who care it would only go up a few cents as opposed to the billions of dollors going out to deal with these criminals. Hey imigration you have a big group of illegals ralling in seattle do your job and get rid of them.
