A historic community center in Seattle's University District wants your vote. It's among 25 historic sites in the Puget Sound region competing for $1 million in grants.
The University Heights Center houses a variety of non-profit educatioin, cultural, music and performing arts organizations including Broadway Bound Children's Theater, Northwest Choirs, yoga classes and defense driving classes.
The building was originally an elementary school, which was built in 1902. The 240 windows that grace the majestic building are the original and are in desperate need of repair.
"They're just worn. In the Pacific Northwest, moisture eventually deteriorates wood," said Executive Director Dorothy Lengyel. "We have a special case of Seattle history. If we don't take care of it, we could lose her."
Other historic sites include the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle, the Spanish Steps in Tacoma, and the Kirkland Arts Center in Kirkland. There will be an Open House at all locations this weekend, giving the public the opportunity to tour the sites.
For more information and to vote, visit Parners in Preservation. Participants may vote once daily until May 12th.
