SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- Good for skiers, bad for drivers.
Up to 18 inches of snow was expected in the Cascades around Snoqualmie Pass Thursday as a winter storm moved into the area. Check your complete forecast on the KING 5 weather page
Snow that fell during the afternoon caused several minor spin-outs and collisions, but no major accidents, said the Washington State Patrol.
"Yeah," said Neil Wolf, who was riding in a car that spun out and was subsequently hit by an SUV. "A little slippery."
It was Benjamin Carlson's SUV.
"I was trying to avoid him and slid right into him," said Carlson, blaming the snow on the road. "It really hurts us little guys because when you're going slow you just start sliding sideways on the new ice."
Still, WSDOT and WSP warn drivers to drive slower and check road conditions before heading through the pass.
Plow and sand truck crews were clearing the highway all night.
During the day, skiers and snowboarders took advantage of the holiday to hit the slopes.
Tyson Peters, from West Seattle, woke up early on Thanksgiving to make a few runs with his 6-year-old son Julian.
"We come up here every year and try to get a little exercise before eating a bunch of turkey," he said.
