Hazy conditions in Seattle and throughout the Puget Sound region that obscured daytime views of the Olympic Mountains over the weekend can be traced to wildfires burning on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.
Satellite imagery released by NASA and the National Weather Service shows smoke from fires in eastern Russia reaching the Northwest's skies. Those fires have been burning since May in some cases -- deliberately set to clear forests for farming, NASA said.
