SEATTLE - Parkers beware! On Warren Avenue North and Second Avenue North between Mercer and Roy Streets, the city has installed two long blocks of handicapped parking.
But, many drivers say the spots are not well marked. They look like the normal Pay-To-Park signs, but at night and on Sundays, it's handicapped parking only for an entire two blocks near the Seattle Center.
"I found a ticket for $250 on my windshield when I got back," said Rhiannon Parmelee, who parked on Second Avenue in late October. She says there were no handicapped parking signs that people normally see. There were no painted sidewalks or painted wheelchair markings.
In mid-November, the city added more handicapped signs on the two blocks.
"We belive it is clear now. But we are open to additional feedback from the public. If we need to take additional steps we will do so," said Rick Sheridan of SDOT.
Parmelee says she will fight her ticket in court. No exact numbers are available now, but the city has issued hundreds of tickets on those two blocks costing drivers thousands of dollars.
