SEATTLE - More than 150 people showed up Sunday outside the Fir Lodge, also known for years as the Alki Homestead Restaurant.

The building, which was built in 1904, was damaged by a fire last year and has been empty ever since then.

Some held signs spelling out "This place matters," part of a new push to help restore the building.

"This building is a big part of our history... as a neighborhood, as a city, it's a part of our community and it's a part of all of us," said King County Executive Dow Constantine.

The group photo will be made into a poster and will also be used in an online marketing campaign.

I wish I had known about the group photo as we would have been there too. We celebrated our 1st anniversary there in Aug. 1961. Doris Nelson the proprietor of the Alki Homestead even took us on a tour of the place herself and I fell in love with the patio out at the side of the restaurant. So lovely and so like her. We celebrated our 25th and 45th anniversaries there and were hoping to celebrate our 50th there this Aug. but unfortunately it met with disaster. I truely do hope they rebuild it and furnish it just the way Doris had it before. That was the charm of the place. Loved the pink and silver throughout. So count us IN even though we weren't in the picture. L & B
