SEATTLE -- The assault trial of a former King County sheriff's deputy has been put on hold over concerns that the man suspected of killing a Seattle police officer on Halloween night may have been motivated by the deputy's actions.

Deputy Paul Schene, 32, was fired after being caught on video repeatedly punching a 15-year-old girl in a SeaTac City Hall holding cell. The girl had kicked her shoe at him.

The video was released to the media, and investigators believe that anger about it might have motivated Christopher Monfort to shoot and kill Seattle police officer Timothy Brenton. Monfort was shot by police Friday and remains at Harborview Medical Center.

Schene's lawyers requested the delay over concerns that news of the Brenton killing could affect how jurors see Schene's case. Schene's fourth-degree assault trial is set to resume Jan. 11.

What do have against Paul Schene? He is a good and decent man. Don't you think you have sensationalized this story enough. How much more can you milk it? I thought it was still innocent until proven guilty? Now to tie him in with a cop murderer is pathetic. You should have your license revoked. And you should be ashamed of yourselves.

denise98002- Not sure what world you live in, but you might consider getting out more. Good and Decent Men don't do anything even approaching what I saw Paul Schene do in that video, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Angry, Violent and Controlling Men do what I saw! Unless that isn't Paul Schene in the video, you might consider changing crowds honey, cause there's a whole nother world out there!

I agree with Bigdaddy...this clown deserves to go to trial...evidence is clear he overreacted to what the girl did...actually she did no more than what you expect from a girl told to go to her room that did not want to go...as an adult police officer he should have known better and what was he thinking...he knew he was being video taped...oh yea my bad for being dumb...he thought his fellow officers would cover this up for him

Hmmm, and now we find out Mr. Monfort did indeed commit the assassination because of his feelings about Schene and his partner (that only got suspended for 5 days.) Actually, this case bothered me less than the cop that slammed a man into a wall and put him into a coma. In this case, the girl was overly aggressive and just asking for what she got, there is no way she should have got paid for provoking a cop, perhaps the payment was for lying about it. I'm glad he got fired for trying to cover it up, but the girl was definitely egging him on and counting on him taking it rather than turning on her, with cameras around him.

Paul Schene good and decent??? - I say thank heavens for cameras. I feel sorry for all the people that are beat daily and there are no cameras, or not enough, and no sound.

Makes me sick how much uncontrolled power they possess and how much they get away with. The police union shot down a proposal to have cameras recording their activities saying that cameras don't show the whole story. Cameras are cheap enough now that they should have them in ALL police cruisers and clipped to their ties. This would show irrefutable proof of what happened, but they would rather just make it up as they see it (or, as they WANT us to see it!). Thank goodness that some cops are not corrupt and didn't LOSE this recording. There are some good cops still, but the good that they do are over-shadowed by the cops who abuse their authority. It's not like she kicked the shoe into his face- merely to his feet and he goes off on her like she was a threat! Disgusting! I hope they aren't trying to get his case thown out from the publicity, but it wouldn't suprise me a bit!
