A former Seattle reporter, working for Al-Jazeera, is now missing in Syria.
When Larry Johnson heard that his good friend and former Seattle P-I colleague -- Dorothy Parvaz -- was missing in Syria -- he got to work.
“I've been emailing, Tweeting, posting on Facebook how to get a hold of Syrian embassy,” he said.
There's even a "Free Dorothy" Facebook page, created in hopes of getting the word out about her.
It's been three days since someone last heard from Parvaz - after the Al-Jazeera reporter arrived at the airport in Damascus to cover the protests in Syria.
“Makes me think something happened at the airport, they tried to arrest her, she resisted, she said something. Dorothy is outspoken. She doesn't like anybody to mess around with her when she's trying to do a story,” said Johnson.
John Levesque was her boss at the P-I.
“She speaks Arabic and Farsii fluently, she has three passports and travels on whichever one is convenient,” he said.
Levesque describes Parvaz as a tenacious journalist who is an American, Canadian and Iranian citizen, dedicated to telling stories.
“She's a good reporter, I'm actually fairly confident she's fine and will be fine and will come out of this with something great to write about I suppose,” he said.
“We are concerned for Dorothy’s safety and well being," an Al Jazeera spokesperson said in a statement. "We are requesting full cooperation from the Syrian authorities to determine how she was processed at the airport and what her current location is. We want her returned to us immediately."
