It was one of the most heartbreaking events in Western Washington. On November 29, 2009, four Lakewood police officers were murdered in cold blood as they sat in a coffee shop, planning the day ahead.

In the weeks that followed, the outpouring from the community was overwhelming. People donated money, food for the families of the fallen officers, and toys for their kids.

Over the past three years, the needs of those families have been met. But the community's desire to give back has not diminished.

So, three years to the day since those horrific killings, the Fallen Officers Food Drive will collect items for the hungry across our area, while honoring the memories of the Lakewood Four and others.

“The Food Drive has grown to honor all officers who died in the line of duty and is a way for law enforcement to give back to their communities,” said officer Aaron Snell of the Everett Police Department.

The popularity of the drive has now spread from its Lakewood home of Pierce County north to Snohomish and Skagit Counties and beyond.

“This is something that’s so important to do, not just to remember our fallen officers, but to help our neighbors in need,” said Shannon Sessions, spokeswoman for the Lynnwood Police Department.

To mark the anniversary, officers will accept donations on November 29 at the Lakewood Police Department. In Snohomish and Skagit Counties, the drive occurs from November 26 through December 2 at various locations. The public is welcome to drop off food and/or cash donations at the agencies and community partners listed below, during normal business hours.
The Fallen Officers Food Drive donations will go to local food networks who serve those in need.
