There was a fire at Red Onion Burgers in Mountlake Terrace on Monday night.

A passerby called in the fire on the 23200 block of 56th Avenue West just after 9:00 p.m.

Flames were shooting from the back of the building and the smoke was throughout when crews arrived, reported Leslie Hynes, public infomation officer Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Firefighters controlled the blaze within 15 minutes.

The fire damage was primarily in the kitchen around the duct work. Parts of the ceiling had to be removed to reach flames in the attic.

The restaurant was closed for the night and no one was on the premises.

Red Onion Burgers will remain closed until repairs can be made.

Mountlake Terrace City Councilman Seaun Richards and his wife, LeRae, own and operate the restaurant.

Earlier this year, the business raised funds for families displaced by a fire at the Taluswood Apartments in Mountlake Terrace.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate are still under investigation.
