BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A Ferndale woman who was paralyzed in 2008 at White Salmon Lodge is seeking millions of dollars in damages from the Mt. Baker Ski Area.

The Bellingham Herald reports that after a three-week trial, Patricia Miller's case went to the jury Friday afternoon. They will continue deliberations on Tuesday.

The retired nurse was injured on Jan. 22, 2008 while sitting in a chair reading a book in an area outside the lodge. An accumulation of ice and snow on the lodge roof broke loose and collapsed on her. Her spinal cord was damaged and she suffered other injuries.

Miller's attorney says the ski area was aware of the danger but didn't do enough to prevent the incident that left her a paraplegic.

What kind of pathetic idiot sits in the stinking snow reading a book. She's an idiot and shouldn't get a penny, courts shouldn't reward stupidity.

It's B.S. like this that makes everything so freakin' expensive. Businesses have to have so much insurance against lawsuits that the only way to cover that cost is to upcharge for services. Of course snow and ice accumulated on the roof...You're on a mountain. What did you expect? Don't sit by the edge of an overhang. I remeber a saying that goes "if it's predictable-it's preventable." That goes both ways. Not only for the business but the customer. I'm just waiting for the lawsuits from the desert race in California where those genius' were killed by the truck that crashed after a jump. I could've predicted that would happen somw day. Bottom line...take responsibility for your own actions and decisions!
