The Ferndale Police Department issued a statement Sunday saying that investigators have not been able to confirm that a gunman was firing at cars on Interstate 5 on Saturday night.
"There is no guarantee that anyone was actually shooting from the overpass. No witness actually saw shots fired, but someone traveling on I-5 thought they may have seen someone in a black hoodie carrying a rifle. They did not see shots fired. No other evidence, like shell casings, have been found around the scene that might help indicate shots having been fired," the statement said.
I-5 was closed in both directions for about 2 hours Saturday night while police from multiple agencies searched for signs of a shooter.
Police are asking anyone who may have more information about the incident to call 911 ask to be connected to Ferndale PD.
