SPOKANE VALLEY -- Family members of a killed Spokane Valley pastor are demanding answers as to why he was shot by a Spokane Valley Police officer.

KREM 2 News cameras were rolling early Thursday morning as two of the sons of Scott Creach shouted their frustrations at a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy.

Creach, 74, was sleeping inside his home on the 14,000 block of East 4th Avenue, when he thought he heard a burglar. Family members say he grabbed his gun, and went outside to investigate. Creach lives next door to his business, The Plant Farm, a local nursery.

Officers say a Spokane Valley Police officer was responding to a call for increased patrols in the area. Officers say there was some sort of confrontation between Creach and the officer in The Plant Farm parking lot, and Creach was shot in the chest. He died on scene.

Shortly after investigators arrived on scene of the officer-involved shooting, KREM 2 News cameras captured a heated discussion between two of Creach's family members and a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy.

One man, apparently Creach's son, shouted, "My father got out of his bed responded to what he thought was a burglar and took a gun with him. he challenged that vehicle in his parking lot and subsequently a deputy sheriff shot him and killed him!"

The men demanded answers from deputies, and claimed they weren't getting any.

KREM 2 News also heard one man shout, "You can't even tell the woman her husband is dead, you don't call emergency personnel for him, he lays there in the parking lot while he's dying, it's ridiculous!"

Officers say the police officer was in an unmarked vehicle, but he was wearing a standard uniform.

The officer has not been identified and was placed on paid administrative leave.

@AKAYJON- Your source is what was said in the press conference held by the family. There is no harm in what was legitimately said, and this is what truly happened. I live in Spokane Valley. this was a terrible tragedy. The facts are there was a uniformed police man in an unmarked car backed into the parking lot of the plant farm. A neighbor called the sherrifs dept earlier in the day to request extra patrol due to an influx of vandalism-Mr Creach thought it was a burglar he armed himself then went out to investigate. He challenged the car and the next fact is Mrs. Creach heard a shout and 3 gun shots. Scott Creach was pronounced dead at the scene,no one knows the facts at this point....there is still an investigation but there is absolutely NO SHAME on the news station there is a live interview on krem.com go check yourself where Alan Creach said those exact words in his interview. My thoughts and prayers are with this family, and may Scott Creach rest in peace.

According to another source : Alan Creach, the victim's son, said his father was investigating what he thought was a burglary. "At 11 o'clock, my father got out of his bed responding to what he thought was a burglar and he took a gun. Challenged that vehicle in his parking lot there in front of the Plant Farm. " said Alan. "Subsequently, a deputy sheriff shot him and killed him. My mother could hear that from the bedroom. She heard a shout and almost immediately thereafter there were three shots that she heard.' Shame on this news station for trying to cause problems. GET YOUR FACTS before you cause more harm. Your story makes it sound like the cop just shot him and left him to die. . I dont believe your story .. SHAME, SHAME ON YOU..

Surely if there was a god, he would have prevented this?

So, the deputy also went to medical school and can make the call on time of death?

Sounds like a mistake that ended in a terrible tragedy. Police aren't perfect, they are humans with training. Let's just hope they don't try to cover up the imperfection that lead up to this.

WHY wasn't there an ambulance....gonna take the shooter's word that the man was dead? WHY didn't the Deputy call an ambulance IMMEDIATELY? There was apparantly a question as to whether he was alive or not in his son's minds...WHY? And if what the Deputy did was so righteous - why no name? If the shooter was not a cop his name and his photo would be plastered all over by now. The law CANNOT be annonymous! The nature of their employment and the authority we GRANT them REQUIRES them to be visible.

For some reason "Family members of a killed Spokane Valley pastor " does not sound like proper English.
