AUBURN, Wash. -- The Red Cross is helping 13 people find shelter after an early morning house fire on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation in Auburn.
The fire happened at a home on 172nd Avenue SE. The homeowner said he was sleeping when his 18-year-old daughter came running into his room, saying her room was on fire.
"Next thing we know, we went to go get water, we came back and the flames were like this," gestures Eric Hungary, homeowner. "Then I just started holler for everyone to get out of the room. I started yelling and pounding on doors."
Two brothers and their families reportedly share the house, including wives, children and babies. Luckily, everyone was able to make it out safely.
Hungary said the flames spread too quickly to save the house, which was built by his grandfather in the 1940s. The home is considered a total loss. A couple of trailer homes on the property were also damaged by the fire.
Hungary said his daughter's room had problems with power, so his daughter was getting electricity through an extension cord. Firefighters say a faulty extension cord is likely to blame for the fire.
No injuries were reported.
